Gundam Build Divers is back with a sequel series, Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE, that is just as referential as its predecessor. It would take a keen eye and bottomless Gundam knowledge in order to catch the more obscure references it makes to every corner of the Gundam multiverse. Fortunately, we have Gundam expert Tom Aznable to help.
Welcome back to Deep Dive, Tom Aznable’s reader-favorite column all about catching the more esoteric aspects of the Gundam multiverse that make it into the show. Nothing passes Tom’s eagle eye for spotting this stuff (we suspect Newtype abilities), but this column focuses specifically on rare sightings and deep cuts. Read on to see what you may have missed:
Episode 15: Mission, Once More
G-Pedia Entries
Par tries to look up the world of Eldora on G-Pedia (GBN’s own version of Wikipedia). He comes up short, but the site gives him a few alternative suggestions:
- Patrick Colasour (Gundam 00) – It seems a bit suspect that Patrick would somehow be at the top of these results, considering that he seems to be involved with running G-Pedia in the first place. While he doesn’t actually appear himself in this episode, this is probably meant to act as his requisite Build Divers cameo this time.
- Eld Moon (Moon Gundam) – Eld Moon is a character that appears in flashback in the currently ongoing manga Moon Gundam. He was once the leader of the neo-luddite colony of Moon Moon that first appeared in the series Gundam ZZ, passing away some time before the events of the show. He is the father of the colony’s current leader Sarasa Moon and her twin sister Rasara Moon, both of which figured prominently in Gundam ZZ’s Moon Moon episodes.
- EL-Diver – An EL Diver of course refers to the electronic lifeforms born within GBN like Sarah from the original Build Divers and May in this current season. The last time G-Pedia showed up in the show, it was actually used to look this entry up.
- Elle Vianno (Gundam ZZ) – One of Judau Ashta’s friends that joins the crew of the Argama, Elle Vianno is the Gundam Mk-II’s pilot during the events of Gundam ZZ.
- Elpeo Ple (Gundam ZZ) – Ple is a childish, energetic Neo-Zeon Newtype MS pilot that nonetheless strongly latches onto ZZ Gundam pilot Judau Ashta. Her name is pronounced like “El People.”
Bird Mode, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (anime)
The key gimmick of Hiroto’s new Core Gundam II (besides the PLANETS system of course) is the ability to transform into a “Core Flyer” mode. The transformation ends up being very similar to the Wing Gundam’s relatively simple yet distinctive bird mode, both in its final appearance and in how it actually reconfigures.
