Colorful, inexpensive, and relatively easy to build, High Grade Gunpla models are great gifts for Gundam-loving friends. Whether the gift recipient is just getting into Gunpla or an old pro, building a High Grade is a fun way for anyone to spend an afternoon. There are sooooo many High Grade Gunpla out there—more than any other grade!—so it was hard to pick just a few favorites.
1. Gundam G-Self with Atmospheric Pack
We’re still undecided on whether Gundam Reconguista in G is any good as a show, but John and I have already agreed that the pointy-eared G-Self is totally badass. A standard red, yellow, blue, and white frame is given new life with shiny, clear-blue details.
One of the most unusual looking Gunpla models there is. With its flame-colored frame, nobody will miss this Zeydra in a lineup.
Red and green just in time for Christmas! Fenice probably gets its red, white, and green color scheme from the heritage of its Italian pilot, Ricardo Fellini, but it also makes a perfect seasonal gift.
Stiletto heels and an orchid color scheme give this flamboyant Gundam an unusual silhouette. Great for the builder who has everything.
5. GPB-06F Super Custom Zaku F2000
Who says Zakus are boring grunt units? Between purple armor, a formidable heat hawk weapon, and an enormously beefed up frame, this custom truly lives up to the pun in its name—that it is 1000 times stronger than a Zaku F2.

Super late here, but I just want to share my terrible experience with the G-Self. (Unrelated, but I just have to)
First off, it has too much stickers for a simple High Grade. Seven stickers just for the head? Is Bandai kidding?
Next, it looks bland without panel lining, which is quite troublesome for beginners like me.
Lastly, articulation wasn’t even close to what you’d expect from a modern HG. That neck piece was horrible, torso movement was terrible, double-jointed elbow didn’t even work, double-jointed leg doesn’t work either.
It’s just real horrible. I wasted almost half my Christmas earnings on a terrible kit that didn’t even feel like something Bandai spent their time working on. 🙁
@SongJaeGu:disqus thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy this model. Hopefully your comment will help other readers shop mindfully. (I’d suggest leaving a review on the Amazon page, too.)
I’ll do just as you said. The G-Self is also the reason why I check reviews first before buying a kit. Don’t want to get bummed out again
