Gunpla Pre-orders and New Releases for February-March 2020

What did you all think of the news that original Gundam character designer Yoshikazu “Yas” Yasuhiko is working on a new Gundam-related project? Yas is 72 now and Gundam is 40, but to me, this shows that the franchise is still going strong even into a new decade.

On a smaller scale, we’re also moving into a new month of Gunpla kits. February may be the shortest month, but it’s brought us an impressive number of new kits, including a Perfect Grade and some whimsical models from the Hello Kitty collaboration. Check them out below:

New Releases for February 2020

PG Perfect Strike Gundam

We did not get a Perfect Grade in all of 2019, but 2020 is making up for it with this release so early in the year! All those detailed white pieces are going to look great with a sharp panel line.

MG FAZZ Ver. Ka (pictured above)

The latest Version Ka kit comes from the Gundam Sentinel novel. I don’t know much about this suit (except that it’s actually pronounced “fahts”) but I am intrigued by that massive firearm.

SD  EX-Standard Hello Kitty/RX-78-2 Gundam (pictured at top)

This is almost indescribably adorable! Make both Hello Kitty and RX-78-2, or combine them into one model with elements of each. It wasn’t until I saw the two mascots’ colors and super-deformed shapes mashed up that I realized what a genius collaboration this was.

Hello Kitty x Haro

Two cute mascots collide in this distinctly feline Haro model. This collab celebrates Gundam’s 40th and Hello Kitty’s 45th birthday, and it’s hard to believe they’re almost the same age.

SD Gundam Cross Silhouette Earthree Gundam (pictured above)

Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE isn’t done airing but its protagonist’s mobile suit already has an SD riff. I wonder if this one will eventually include all the planetary armor add-ons?

HGBD:R Gundam Tertium

So far in Re:RISE, we know Sid as the pilot of the Seltsam. But before that, he was the builder of this bulky purple number. Looking forward to learning more about him and his build!

HGBD:R Mercone Unit

The fact that the Core Gundam’s underwater armor is named for Mercury makes more sense in Japanese, where Mercury (水星) translates literally to “water star.”

HGBD:R Avalanche Rex Buster

This is a set of optional parts to enhance Parvis’s SD suit, the Valkylander. Like in the show, it can be assembled in multiple ways, including as a backpack or a standalone robo-bird.
